The Association of Science Communicators (ASC) is a nonprofit organization that empowers science communicators to expand their communication potential and increase the impact of science in society. Through our annual conference, online courses, mentorship program, and other offerings we promote responsible practices in science communication, facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas, enrich networking, and foster public engagement.
We are searching for an experienced development professional with a passion for science communication to join our Board. This is a volunteer position, in keeping with all Board positions within ASC.
The Development Director will work closely with the President, Executive Director, and other Board members to coordinate the following activities.
- Expand our existing network of potential sponsors, targeting corporate, government, foundation, and academic entities, and other appropriate partners for both conference sponsorships and non-conference support.
- Update organizational sponsorship packages.
- Work with the marketing and communication team to promote the organization, with a focus on donor communications.
- Identify and maintain an internal database of funding opportunities.
- Fulfill other duties as agreed on by the Board.
We are looking for someone with strong nonprofit fundraising experience who works well in a dispersed team environment. Essential qualifications include:
- Experience organizing fundraising campaigns
- Passion for the ASC mission.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Someone who will thrive in a diverse team.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with grant writing preferred, but not required.
